The A-Z of being in business during tough times
There are many things to be worried about if you’re a business owner right now. And while it’s important to acknowledge and accept the economic challenges Australia is facing the wake of the Global Pandemic, it’s also vital we try and focus on the positives too. Although they might be few and far between, there are glimmers of hope and encouragement flickering tiny bursts of light in the COVID-19 world we find ourselves in. And innovation, creativity and experimentation are just some of them.
The sudden onset of the Pandemic has forced businesses of all shapes and sizes to rethink how they operate and how they can best serve their customers + clients in such uncertain times. I know it’s tough right now, but I really encourage you to find the good in a bad situation and start to think outside the box as your business moves forward into a brighter future. It might not be in the way you envisaged when you first started out, but great things can come from adapting to change, especially when the world is along for the same crazy ride.
What can you do in your business right now? Have you had a random idea and thought it was too weird or silly to follow up on? What do you have to lose if you dabble in the idea? It doesn’t have to be some grand plan that requires a big investment - both in time and money. I know of a local cafe who started selling bulk goods, kind of like a makeshift supermarket. And that was on top of creating a new website where customers could order directly online. Would they have done this if COVID-19 didn’t rear its ugly head? Probably not.
One of my clients decided now was her chance to launch a new business… something she’d be dreaming about for quite a while now. Having lost someone dear to her and then celebrating the birth of her first grandchild, my client felt she had nothing to lose. Life is too short. Nothing was going to stand in her way, not even a Global Pandemic. I’m so proud of all she has achieved in the past few months we’ve been working together. And she has launched a new business all while building a house and juggling two jobs!
What’s the niggling idea that you can’t seem to stop thinking about? I encourage you to give it a try. After all… I’m a big believer in the magic of new beginnings.
